Sparking Meaningful Discussions

I recently had the pleasure of doing a short highlight of a Black change agent. I chose to bring awareness to Dr. Anita Phillips. Among her noteworthy accomplishments include being a licensed trauma therapist, certified mental health coach and life coach, an engaging professional speaker, an impactful minister, and a New York Times bestselling author. I chose to bring awareness to Dr. Phillips because her contributions to ministry and health and wellness are revolutionary. Her insights and teachings, when understood and applied, have and can continually free people from systematic cardiac issues. READ MORE
While featured On Fire to Inspire, I offered practical approaches to being happier and addressing emotions during some of the most challenging seasons. As uncomfortable as grief and stress can be, the best approach almost always requires us to feel our feelings before we can feel our way out of them. So, what do we do in the meantime? What can we do to push through the moments that make us feel too tired to push? Here, I offer some solutions that are tried and true.
Though the importance of mental health has become significantly more acknowledged, knowledge gaps and stereotypes still exist when it comes to mental health. I had the pleasure of being able to debunk stigma, share statistics, and encourage tactful intervention at Innov8tion Point. I hope to continue to add to conversations that are informed and open in spaces that value truth, wisdom, and transformation.
I created this flyer after I was invited to serve as a keynote speaker for an event for entrepreneurs. I was thrilled to share insights on topics that are deeply meaningful to me. The event’s discussions focused on holistic solutions to challenges faced when establishing, expanding, and maintaining a company. Drawing from my experience as an entrepreneur, certified educator, and mental health coach, I welcomed conversations about strategies to enhance both health and wealth.
Writing and Performing Poetry that
Engages, Entertains, and Moves Audiences
"Look" is presented from the perspective of someone who is healing from past trauma. Despite being in the act of healing from the pain caused by loved ones who manipulated her "most vulnerable truths," the poem ends with a powerful proclamation that despite every pain, the person is still standing. This poem is meant to be inspirational and present an opportunity for people to speak about how their pain was repurposed into something positive. If you or someone you know has recently experienced trauma, it's important to acknowledge the emotions without judgment. READ MORE
According to RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network), there are about 464,000 rape or sexual assaults in the United States every year. "Magnitude 8" captures the experience of a woman who is shaken by sexual trauma, as well as the unnerving experience of a loved one whom she confides in while working through the misplaced guilt and shame. I wrote this poem to support uplifting and well-informed conversations.

Near the beginning of 2014, my college community, friends and I lost a beautiful, promising student athlete to suicide. As I grappled with that, I remember reading an article that stated depression would be reaching its highest numbers. I found myself sensitive to the silent, developing epidemic at the time. People were internally hurting -- feeling hopeless -- and they were increasingly physically hurting themselves. I wrote this poem then. I currently perform it as a message of hope, love, and support. I hope it encourages listeners to choose life, remembering that there's so much goodness in tomorrow even if today seems bleak.
